Burkino Faso 2016-2017

ABOUT BURKINA FASO

Women in a villageBurkina Faso is located in Sub-Saharan Africa in a region of the world referred to as the Sa-hel. The country was formerly known as Upper Volta. Burkina has a population of over 15 million. The people of Burkina Faso are known as the Burkinabe, and their primary language is French. Burkina is listed as one of the world’s poorest countries and has one of the highest illiteracy rates in the world. One in three children die before the age of ten primarily from malnutrition and water born illness, but also struggle to deal with AIDS, Malaria, and other treatable diseases.

CREATING SOLUTIONS

The overwhelming needs that we encounter day after day in Burkina Faso have created an atmosphere where relief organizations focus their efforts on delivering much needed short-term aid time and again.     Water is life

We believe it is time to go beyond short-term solutions and focus our attention on the transformation that can be created with long-term, sustainable answers to some of the challenges in Burkina Faso.

It’s time to focus our attention on directing resources to:

  • Bring clean water to each and every community in Burkina Faso.
  • Provide the capital funds that leaders need to build primary, secondary, and technical schools.
  • Provide short term solutions and develop a long term sustainable community plan for the physically disabled to live, work, and eat.

Engage Burkina will lead the way in coming alongside Burkinabe leaders to move Burkina Faso from a country of short-term need to a place of sustained development and opportunity.
